....When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she’s buying a stairway to heaven
....
Is it a coincidence when I sat here to write this note this song was streaming out of my PC speakes? And with a second thought
I write down the lines of this famous song. Is it a coincidence? Is it?
I am writing this note in reaction; Reaction to the interview I watched last night on PTV. I don’t react normally and rarely do I react strongly but my life record reveals that whenever I have reacted strongly I had to regret labout it later, Will I have to regret ? Will I?
And here comes Mr. Bush to Pakistan after a row of former (and loosing) US Presidents, providing an opportunity to people like me to write. There is something in this Texan.
Man, Bush Bashing is cool, the more fiercely you strip him , the more famous you are. I want to get famous quickly. I am free to find my (cheap or decent) ways to fame.
It’s the fame stupid !!!
or is it freedom? Is it freedom stupid !!?!!
With the innocence of a child the interviewer opened his line of questions, saying that people of Pakistan hoped of a positive outcome of his visit. Hearing this George W. Bush grinned loudly , so did I. There are people more stupid than him.
We as a people have a feeling, at this visit , which can be termed as anything but hope. It is fear.Fear which pangs in your veins , fear of babies being killed ,fear of daisies being cut ,fear of mother of bombs. He couldn’t come to Pakistan in his first term ,and now he is coming. Oh God! What if he wishes to learn about Pakistan? as,they say, for geography there is only one way for Americans to learn it, War.
With the innocence of a loyal wife of a drunkard husband, who is beaten like hell everyday, but hopes everynight that the husband of hers, an endowment from God, would treat her with love and care, he continues to ask questions. Isn’t he an innocent man? Jaffer Bilgrami.
As a precursor to his visit to Pakistan ,Bush was interviewed by PTV. Last time when the US president visited Pakistan, it was Bill Clinton, all three of our channels which I could watch back then were telecasting live from a single camera which was glued to the gate of the Air Force One plane ,after it touched the soil, so that the people of Pakistan would n’t miss this heartening event . Mr. Clinton waving his hands to
Pakistanies, how many of us had longed for it .
Our kowtow was proper. Let’s see how this band of private channels, most of them filled with stalwarts of Govt, react.
But What if they react strongly?
He was right many a times in his interview. When asked about the role he could play for the resolution of Kashmir, Bush said " I have already played a role in my speech..".
When talking about strengthening ties between the two countries, he suggested that steps should be taken to improve trade ties. Well, scanning some previos years records our major export to US has been bedsheets and the prime import is Prime Ministers. This imperial democracy will off course help US in its cause....and what their true concerns are.
About the relationship between US and Pakistan he didn’t hide the fact that it’s the relationship between Gen. Musharraf and him that permeates throughout the two government. In fact it’s only the two presidents who share this relationship. Fed with hatred and disinformation US citizens are either indifferent to us or view us as blood thirsty nomads. Hats off to the free western media.
Don’t you feel embarrassed as a Pakistani when in the name of freedom your Army marches arm in arm with US in this so-called war against terror, killing civilians, don’t you feel at the receiving end of these brutalities when your national assets are being sold in the name of progress. When provocation is termed as cool and people committing it are pampered when respect for religious belief becomes uncool. When thousands of Iraqi children and innocent people are killed, when home to one of the ancient civilizations of the world is turned to ashes, Mosques and churches are bombed , Museums are buried in their own debris and when all of this is done in the name of freedom, you know who is at the helm of the affaris.
Americans are stupid , they know nothing about Muslims. No homework they have done as Britishers did. Our weaknesses and stregths, our history and aspirations. In their stupidity they have revealed the real face of freedom ,they proclaim to be prevailing in their society. The past US presidents at least knew how to cajole not only the interns but foreign press as well.
If Bush gets what he wants from this visit God knows if our children will forgive us.There is an air of anti-Americanism in the whole of the deprived world .Left or right you hate him becuase you love humanity, moderate or progressive, student or scholar ,sufi or maulvi ,Muslim or non-Muslim come out of your khanqahs , out of your universities , come out of your seminaries. Raise a slogan , write a line , make a caricature, throw some mud on its already filthy attire.
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll.
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she’s buying a stairway to heaven
