The Pakistani music industry`s major domo, Mekaal Hasan`s album Sampooran [under the aegis of his band, The Mekaal Hasan Band] is the first album to come out in ages that is devoid of commercialism and compromises. Sampooran is music in its purest form,
in which eastern lyrics and melodies blend effortlessly with western rock to create fusion music of the likes of the late Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. The kaafis on the album, Sajan and Rabba are the best tracks, spellbinding in their entirety. While the album will probably not be a commerical success, it is definitely a fresh breath of air in the somewhat stagnated industry.
