My face was lit up with the joy
Of once-upon-a-life-time love
Found (no less) in my prime of years:
Then all was pink and all was cute;
And laughter, ringing in the heart
With passionate and heady scent
Of flowers musky sweet and bloomed,
Flooded with airy light and hue
The very center of my
soul.
I could not see her but as fair
And lovely, nice and innocent;
And other women blurred to me
While she was focused sharp and bright.
I never saw such eyes as deep
As hers to drown my cynic mind,
And wake me up to realise
That my true love at last has come
And will be here forevermore…
I swore that my love will not fade:
Swore on my childless fatherhood!
For in her eyes, whene’er she smiled
And looked me straight into the eyes,
I saw my laughing, shouting son
On daddy’s shoulders riding high;
And smiling daughter, frocked in pink,
And fiddling with mum’s make up kit.
Those two dear rascals in her eyes
Whom we would later bring to life…
And so my face lit up with joy
And happiness was all around.
I could not wait to let the show
Get started and enthrall us more.
But fate had marked me for her bait:
My heart is shriveled in my chest.
When all was ripe and fair and true
My love deceived me in the end.
I am torn aside. But I must mend
My this poor suffering lonely heart lest
I should not survive the day.
But what is it that I can do?
Except hang down my head and wait;
And let it heal as it may…
