Zombie Nation - Random Thoughts!

ameer-e-shaher ghareeboon ko loot laytay hai – kabhi baheela-e-mazhab tu kabhi banaam-e-watan....

(the rich of city loots the poor, sometimes with the excuse of religion and sometimes in the name of country)

The day begin with the graphics of Peshawar Bombing and breaking news of Madam
Hilary Clinton making a news conference with our foreign minister whose son, works as an intern for Senator Kerry's office back in Washington D.C. The less said the better. The situation in Pakistan is tense, the fear could be best summed up by my sister who only few hours back was discussing about skipping school for couple of weeks because of fear of being hit by a suicide bomber and my mother’s extra hug before me going out with mates only couple of hours back as if I will not return. Yes, I have to attend more calls from home when I am out on my cell phone and make excuses to stay late then ever before.

There are Talibans in the North West absolutely determined to behead us to impose their way of life upon us, there are world powers who want us to use us their respected proxy’s and there’s the wily old “mongolianish” politicians everywhere who are determined to rob and plunder us economically. We the citizens who had been falsely fed with larges doses of “patriotism” for a country which takes false pride in wars which she has never won and mere words of “glory” and “honor” are successfully turned into zombies and sometimes, even zombies are better as they could walk and groan, we can’t.

I see more CV’s in gutters then the degrees awarded; I see more beggars then the givers and more homeless then the home-owners. The idiot-box (television) reflects bloodshed and lying politicians fighting for more and more power. The poor are dying and the rich flying – stuck in-between are the middle classes, who had recently shed their respected dreams of going ahead in their respected lives and are only living day to day – fighting to stay to the level they were some years back. Theirs lot of cursing, a lot of emotions and a hell lot of frustration!

The elite capitalist class who had robbed and plundered us for generations under the disguise of religion, business, ethnicity, patriotism, culture and language are busy exploiting the current situation of Pakistan. While some of them are busy awarding millions of dollars of rental power projects others are busy in making deals to come into power. We live in a country where our finance minister owns his own bank and where being jailed for corruption considered an honor. I live in a country where politicians are richer than business tycoons and where the President, Opposition leader and a former prime minister paid less than $500 a year in taxes combined.

This is Pakistan of October, 2009. Pakistan today is one of the most unpredictable countries in the world where nothing seems normal and static except the bank accounts of those who exploit. It reminds me of the poetry,
ameer-e-shaher ghareeboon ko loot laytay hai – kabhi baheela-e-mazhab tu kabhi banaam-e-watan...
(the rich of city loots the poor, sometimes with the excuse of religion and sometimes in the name of country)

If the multi-nationals are milking, the local companies draining our “blood”; the banks multiplying their profits and the average Joe on the street faces a whopping 24% food inflation. The food curtails determined to even snatch the last loaf of bread from out mouth and ever willing to even store blood from blood banks. I sometimes wonder whose worse that terrorist suicide bomber who explodes himself and kill or these animal capitalists who are busy in mass murder of 160-170 million of Pakistanis.

There are also media giants who are busy emotionally blackmailing and hammering us false information to the benefit of highest bidder. Then there’s the whole debate of Kerry Lugar Bill and $1.5 billion dollar aide which is a bone of contention to many. I wonder what if Pakistani parliament also passes a bill making the war against Al-Qaida/Taliban conditional to the release of certain funds in a certain manner. Its democracy isn’t it? The army had her own reasons because of the audit of the aide perhaps? Consider clause SEC. 205. REQUIREMENTS FOR CIVILIAN CONTROL OF CERTAIN ASSISTANCE

(a) Requirements: (1) IN GENERAL - For fiscal years 2010 through 2014, any direct cash security-related assistance or non-assistance payments by the United States to the Government of Pakistan may only be provided or made to civilian authorities of a civilian government of Pakistan…but then sub chalta hai? (Everything goes in Pakistan!)

General Asfaq Pervez Kiani may he get more stars (which is impossible) sometime back disallowed all his generals and uniformed officers to meet politicians while only recently he himself broke his own rule and met Shabaz Sharif and Chaudry Nisar. This is unfortunately, the unpredictable Pakistan…..

We back in Pakistan, live to live another day, Zombies? Maybe!
