Excuse Me but Can ANP Spell Pakhtoonkhwa?

Waheed Malik February 11, 1998

How long must we all endure airheads like members of the ANP? The esteemed whoever from ANP gives a brilliant example by citing the situation in our neighboring country India where the change in the name of Bombay to Mumbai
did not require BJP and Shiv Sena to get approval of the Indian prime minister or any political party.

This is apparently a hot political issue as opposed to education, infrastructure, social order, roads, public health, or crime with our leaders in the NWFP, led by the infamous Nasim Wali Khan. What bothers me is and I hope I am not alone in this opinion that What the hell is in the name of a province when the overall conditions in that godforsaken place is deteriorating day by day. "No! But we must have a new name", "How can we live and go on like that, without a new name for the province?", "This is the only obstacle in the progress of our beloved NWFP…oops Pakhtoonkhwa!", what a bunch of idiots!

These leaders would rather waste scarce government time, money, and resources pursuing some meaningless trivial pursuit then to actually get of their asses and work for a living. What difference would a "name change" make any way? Would it suddenly give all sorts of rights to the provincial populous, or give them clean drinking water, or electricity, or heat, or better roads, or public safety, or a better quality of life? I really don’t think so!

And yes, Khan Abdul Wali Khan, Begum Nasim, Azam Khan Hoti and Farid Toofan, please help us remain divided on ethnic lines and if possible please keep enacting such issues and please if you could somehow add an extra spin about Shia’at and Sunniad that would be just perfect, after all that is your job, isn’t it? And thank you so much for your efforts and I am so glad to see you unified for once! Could you help me later after all of you have honed your skills with the PM… there is this little issue of my name I would like to discuss with my folks…?

Mujhaye Kia Burra Thha Mar’naa Aggar Aik Bar Hota!
