Nothing to Wear!

Anita Zaidi December 27, 1998

Said Shazia to Nazia,

can you believe -

I have nothing to wear

on New Year’s Eve.

To go to that ball at Zohair’s place

without new clothes, I cannot conceive!

And anyway -

my eyes are too red from crying.

What should I do with that bastard Hameed?

How can I punish him

for his
vicious misdeed.

What was he thinking -

feeding me that lie

"Fikr na karaiN, pursooN lai leiN".

Can’t go where I was all set to outvie

many ladies looking so mighty and high.

For these sins, I think,

he deserves to die.

My dear Shazia, said Nazia,

I feel your pain,

but killing Tailor Sahib

is a little insane -

don’t you think?

What will you gain

except sweet revenge.

It won’t make the party happen again.

No, we must think of some other solution.

How about a jora from that exclusive

"Illusion"?

Gasped Shazia to Nazia,

oh puh-leeeez!

All that ready-made stuff

makes me look obeeeese.

Those clothes are made

without any finesse.

My jora was designed with infinite care

That shimmering high bodice

I can no longer wear.

Woe, woe, woe, on Hameed!

I am without my masterpiece.

Murmured Nazia to Shazia,

Well then dear friend,

how about this for a simple idea?

Wear that stunning gold ‘n white blend

that rekindled the Princess Leia

look-a-like trend -

in the happening haunts of our area.

Shrieked Shazia to Nazia,

I am shocked at this suggestion.

That outfit is passé,

so long out of fashion.

Besides, its been spotted

at some Nazimabadi function.

No, wearing that thing

is out of the question!

You can go through my closet,

validate my assertion.

All these clothes and nothing to wear!

Its my screwed up tailor,

I solemnly swear.

Oh horrid, horrid, horrid Hameed!

May lightning strike you and your breed.
