Rape of another Kind

I do not know of a single woman who chose to be raped, so that she could migrate to Canada. But I do know of many thousand men and women who chose to migrate to Canada because they did not want to be raped and end up in a hopeless and helpless situation in Pakistan.

Clearly the President’s New York statement on this account is false, offensive and despicable. He must publicly and unconditionally apologise to every citizen of Pakistan. Perhaps he needs to be informed that the Islamic Republic which sponsors his fortnightly foreign visits, has successfully established some of the world’s most invincible (at par with the defence of the country) "gang rape institutions." There are these rapid response gang rapes (Mirwala case), uniformed rapes (Sui case), custodial rapes ( Faisalabad case) and Jirga driven rapes – to name just a few.

The entire system is fervently supported by state institutions that would ensure that the FIR is never recorded (Sonia Naz), the rapists are protected (Dr. Shazia’s case), the medico-legal examination is messed up (every case), the rapists are set scot-free (LHC) and the justice is eternally denied (Mukhtaran Mai’s case). While there is no state institution that can claim to be any where close to being called "customer friendly", certainly there are many who now provide par-excellence rapist friendly and rapist supportive (one–window) operations. Quite an incentive for foreign investment.

However, just because some parts of the President’s New York statement are disgusting, he must not be denied credit for being so completely truthful when he says, "rape is a money-making concern." In fact he was referring to the gang rape of the Patriata forest being conducted under the title of the "New Murree Project." The ’money-making concern’ led by the highest in the land of now two and a half rivers has undertaken a rapid response rape project to destroy, dishonor and degrade what little is left of the 200 years old forest. A gang rape of another kind. Does that give you some idea, Mr. President as to why do people choose to migrate?
