Compounding Tragedy by Mourning Methods

ahmed hasan April 13, 2006

The tragedy at Nishtar Park was in itself a deep enough shock to digest but repercussions of this event have unfortunately been unsatisfactory as far as architects of this incident are concerned. Instead of cooperation and cohesive planning there is feeling of
chaos, aimless anger and disarray among people. At this juncture it would have been appropriate if people had resorted to principles of unity and collaboration

The after-effects of this tragic incident have seen a mourning of three days where majority of business and educational activities have come to a standstill. Now this is a huge blow for a country which is tying to establish itself on firm economic ground. Imagine the impact a shutdown of three days would have on the economy of our country. Instead of dealing with the tragedy in a constructive way and deriving remedies, people are further compounding problems.

Then, apart from that many people are resorting to destructive measures to somehow relieve their anger and frustration. Burning of vehicles and demonstrations is not an ideal measure to adopt at this stage. Many opposition factions are blaming security measures and lack of appropriate methods by government as reasons behind this tragedy. Instead of dealing with the task cohesively they are trying to spread more unrest and chaos by their non- cooperative attitude.

At this instance everyone should control their emotions and look at remedies to resolve this problem. They should work towards deriving measures to stabilize the law and order situation and thus prevent the occurrence of such events in future.
