Indian cricket: present and future

The new found resurgence after their series win against West Indies and now looking ahead at the tri-series in Sri-lanka

India has finally achieved the impossible (at least till now) , their first series win on foreign soil after 35 long years, but unlike Gavaskar’s 774 run cornerstone, the current lot were served by team effort, with many players putting their hand up to be
counted whenever the team was down.

The present team is a perfect concoction of youth and experience. With the likes of Harbhajan & Anil Kumble , bowling really well with Anil crossing another milestone and like old wine, improving with age. Sreesanth and Munaf Patel bowled exceptionally well in the St. Lucia test. And above all the virtuoso act of Rahul Dravid, once again proved that he is the bulwark of the Indian team.

But the team cannot afford to be complacent after all the West Indies had a very inexperienced bowling attack and Sarwan, Lara really made mincemeat of the Indian bowling attack.

Next challenge for India is to prove that they are not a one match wonder(one series rather) , that their win in calypso was not a fluke. The coming tri-series featuring hosts Sri-lanka, South-Africa and India will stretch them to their limits.

With a balanced batting and bowling line-up South-Africa are looking ominous as ever. Sri-lankans after their run feast against Holland have once again proved that Jayasurya &Co. are still capable of the fireworks they always promised.

Well, we can only hope and pray that India doesn’t disappoint us once again, and the resurgence, the virility doesn’t die down.
