We keep hearing of big diplomatic achievements and have a
habit of eagerly awaiting the days such diplomatic talks are to be held.
In recent times, the public has looked towards three Pakistani diplomatic
initiatives and
three times in a row, have come away
with a hollow anti-climax.
First, we
hold talks. Nothing good came out of it; instead, something
negative came out: no schedule was announced.
Next Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with President Clinton.
And what really came out of this talk? Did we get the F-16s released
(the ones Pakistan has already paid for in full)? Any
action on reversing The Pressler Amendment? Any removal of
trade restrictions and quotas by United States? No.
Last of all, there was the promised meeting of the Pakistani & Indian PMs in
New York. And still nothing.
People say that you should not just talk the talk, you must also walk the walk.
In Pakistani Diplomacy, there is a need to actually talk the talk first.
