Postcards from Heaven

here’s to
waking with the sun-
tongue tasting tangy saltiness on soft lips
weathered by misty oceanbreeze,
grains of sand invading
imperfect crevices between round toes,
faint imprints in moist sand
attesting to
me
for the breath
(and a half)
before being wiped clean by
lingering frothy residue,
leaving behind not a trace
except perhaps
shallow dips in sand
where stretches of tide couldn’t reach,
mesmerized by horizon gently filling with
gorgeous orangepinkreds
increasingly becoming reckless with each breath,
spilling over brilliant golden splashes
onto the sea (delighted)
crashing waves whispering thanks softly in return
stretching waves further
to display glorious shimmering gift from sky
...and all the while
i’m wondering
how every imperfection of sandsurfskyself
could in an instant become
perfect (and all the more breathtaking)
if only you were here
