Neuro Politics

Many of us use self-talk to handle what is going on inside minds. When self-talk is not monitored cautiously it can lead to drastic effects not only on one’s personality but also affects our mentality and psychology. In literature we call it soliloquy. This
also leads to low self-esteem. Low self-esteem can be traced retrospectively in the self-talk. A lot of things remain running in the reward system of the brain and it keeps reminding ourselves what we talk with ourselves. This is automatic system and there is no filtering of thoughts. Therefore we should be very aware what we are saying to ourselves.

This is verily true when collective thinking of a nation is explored. Trickle down effects of what’s going on in the heads of those at helm certainly effects psyche of the populace. Continuous pouring of negative news and presenting dark side of the events draw an even darker picture of the future. We are listening since long about Declaration of Emergency or Martial Law. As soon as such news appears in media people start thinking about aftermaths. They blindly believe on the source. Surreptitiousness of whether Gen Musharraf will go for presidency, uniform or both moving nation between two ends of the pendulum. Power sharing agreement with PPP will be materialized or not is keeping us in confusion. Man handling of Nawaz Sharif, chief justice, political victimization, crushing the moral values on the name of moderation etc Psychology says that when matters are unnecessarily lingered on, brain starts producing negativity. This negativity turns into negative self-talk.

Political shrewdness is okay but when it trespasses the moral, social and cultural values creates negative thoughts and those thoughts leads to negative self-talk. Brain never forgets what we repeat again and again. Ironically it can not recognize what is beneficial to the individual and what is not. Therefore when ever we ‘talk’ with ourselves, as an individual, we should be cautious, very cautious in fact. We should give ourselves positive messages and accept that there are certain things which we can not change. We should seek guidance and courage to change the things which we can change. We can alter the messages which are going to our brain. We should control our brain lest it will control us. When human loose control over brain, it looses control on all other issues.
