Of what avail the melodies and glitter,
That an evening muse brings;
Life is false:
The past is faded, 'today' is a brittle 'now';
'Tomorrow' is 'immediate', the 'future' a shallow 'dream'.
The stilled ripples of watery emotions,
The burning desires of tranquil morns:
Lost in a devilish
whirl of litany -
The lies, the shame taht is wrought
In the weeping fullness of inglorious yearnings!
For too long have I kept my Peace,
For too long sold my soul for a pittance;
The clamour of imperious greed
Felling the golden rays of the noontide Sun,
And streaming beckoning of the burnished moon.
Human arrogance shatters the pious mountains,
Cleaving through crumbling rubble of perished Earth,
Hastening the onset of the Trumpets' deafening Eternity,
And Finality of a dusty, burning hazy grave!
This poem has been written in agony: a reflection on the clouded future of the our beloved Pakistan.
