Spinning the Public Beating and the Mob Justice

Pakistanis have a very short term memory, especially with when it comes to celebrating their artists and writers in general, and poets in particular, are short lived. However if anything one poet, Faiz, and his specific verse, ‘ Hum dekain gay’ has almost been etched in the minds of the people,
thanks mostly to the autocratic power usurpers who have steered this country into misery.

Recently two previously high ranking ministers, one cabinet minister and another Chief Minister of second most populous province of Pakistan, and someone who himself beat up a journalist once, were beaten up, that’s the softest word I can use, by angry protesters filmed on camera and shown throughout the world. Both ardent allies of Pervez Musharaff receiving the wrath for their affiliations? This certainly is not the first public beating of Mush allies. During Emergency on country, it was the ‘information’ minister beaten by the people he broadcasted ‘information’ to i.e. the Media, no literally beaten as in punched and slapped! Then it was the previous government’s senior lawyer, Ahmed Raza Kasuri’s face sprayed black by a senior (and quite livid) lawyer for his foulmouth and then of course the feudals of Dadu having to flee in middle of night when mob came to blaze their homes.

Now one can speculate that the numerous problems this government was able to create, as opposed to extinguish, that may have led to people getting this angry. Others have conspiracy theories varying from ever blameworthy Pakistani Intelligence agencies to political Parties behind all this.
But I have another theory, it may seem a bit far fetched to be even revising in my head but I am not the one who keeps these things to himself.

Pakistan is a trouble ridden country with so many problems that people need some sort of distraction. Now if you look at other conventional means of entertainment, movies, music, sports and family resorts. Most people can’t afford to enjoy them with the expensive equipments they require, like tvs, Stereos, Sports kits, membership fees etc And one can go on and on about the standard of entertainment that is provided by our national sports teams, movie actors and like.

So it maybe that people may have just decided to combine to create a new sport. People anyway hate these ruling elites in their extravagant lifestyles, bad governance and greed for wanting more and more out of public funding. It was only natural that this sport would develop and consequently will prosper. It has already caught on, being played in almost all the provinces of Pakistan; might even develop into a national sport. If anything its too addictive. I mean who wouldn’t want to participate in this sport? It might go international soon and countries coming together competing who beat up their bad administrators.

If any commercial cooperate is looking to invest in an upcoming sports which would be almost as popular as football, they shouldn’t look anywhere else this may be it.
No really, I even have a scientific reasoning behind this as well. Human brain actually blossoms on seeing other people getting hurt. Charlie Chaplin made an illustrious career out of exploring and exploiting this, and today, while some people now may say they are too sober to laugh at such archaic mode of comedy, the addiction surely will be so great that hardly one can refrain from taking part. It’s just natural and healthy, even your psychiatrist, who used to tell you to punch a rubber dummy for stress alleviation, will prescribe you to take part in this sports.

It’s almost victimless, almost since there is always at least one victim but let’s face it, nothing ever is perfect and well, only people who deserve it will have the honour of being the beaten. You really need to be a bad administrator or power usurper that people are so full of hatred for you that they can’t help but beat you, in some cases, with their only pair of shoes!

In the end, while it can only be speculated at this very initial stage, if this game does go international all the third world countries should thrive in it. But as it always happens with these countries, their standards may go down, especially if there are no longer bad administrators or power usurpers to beat up. This game does flourish on satisfying human primal need to see the most disgusted among us beaten up, if there is scarcity of participants it might not go as well it has been planned for this sport in long run.

In a final note, while would be some organisations who protesting for Human Rights and against this game. But these people have so far not been able to stop these usurpers from acting inhumanly by violating all the Human Rights in first place, that they have become jhoota worthy, it hardly can be seen they will be able to stop this sports either from growing.
