Amidst the stillness of the night
A man treads on a mountainous path
He feels chill of the night biting into his skin
He hears crackling of the leaves
As wind hustles past the silent trees
He gazes up to the heavens
The constellation of stars beyond his imagination
He closes his eyes to wonder
at mysteries of the universe
To access the wisdom within his unconscious
And there he stands for a timeless moment
He hears the song of the morning breeze
And opens his eyes to a golden hue blanketing the horizon
A slighter of light tearing through the darkness
As the sun woke, the squirrels climb down and play
As the sun woke, birds sing and trees dance
Mesmerised, he gazes into the suns heart
The awakened sun addresses the man
You wonder at the beauty I exude
But do you know my essence, my inner beauty?
Yes, he responds; for you transform darkness into light
You bless me with warmth after a cold night
I have all those beautiful faces, but I am much more than that
I am all those beautiful attributes, but I am not limited by that
For my essence is far beyond all my attributes
If you want to know, then I shall say so
My essence is not that I bring light to darkness
My essence is that I do so for all without discrimination
My essence is not that I give warmth and energy
My essence is that I do so for all without partiality
My essence is that my light and warmth embraces all
It discriminates not between a saint or one who has sinned
It discriminates not between one born black or white
My light and warmth excludes none and nurtures all
And that is the essence of the sun
But remember, I am created in the same image as man
And though you have forgotten, this too is your essence
For your love is unbound and without discrimination
The man gazes into the heart of the sun
Mesmerized by the words of the sun
He wondered how this world would be if man lives true to his essence
To give away love and ourselves to others without discrimination
There will be no prejudice on race or on religion
No genocide in Darfur; no war in Palestine
No victims of terrorism in Karachi or in Mumbai
And the innocent of Rwanda will be saved in time by the UN
Our humanity will be for all without judgement or exclusion
We will all be one and the bloodshed will end
The man watched the sun as it rises to the heavens
Shine! So entire humanity may see your essence
And when we do, we shall catch a glimpse of our own essence too
