Who is the Potato-head Now?
One comes across certain rarities in life: the odds go in one's favor if
you follow professional cricket, and to increase your chances further
watch Pakistan vs India
cricket matches. These matches have a history
of unprofessional acts from both players and spectators. The crowd has
become unruly & threatening at times. A few years back Pakistan refused
to play in India due to a threatening atmosphere of spectators. One would
have hoped the ’neutral' grounds of Toronto were safe enough....but not
any more.
On September 17th, Pakistani Cricketer Inzaman Ul-Haq surrendered to Canadian
police and was charged with three counts of assault after allegedly
jumping in the stands and unleashing his fury on the spectators. Inzaman
allegedly kicked & punched the spectators and to top it off tried to clobber them
with a bat.
Inzaman's foolishness was in response to being called a ’potato'. Normally
being called an Aloo (potato) may mean a lot of things ranging from
dumb & stupid to an idiot. In this case, it was meant simply as
’fat'. Inzaman, slightly overweight, may not have taken any offense if he
didn't really think he was an Aloo but his actions confirm he is certainly
not just fat but also dumb & stupid. By bringing a bad name to his
team, his profession, and his country he lays claim to all the insinuations
related to being called a ’potato.'
