Gujrat - The Verdict Of God

Parthasarathy B March 15, 2003

Tags: Constitution , Politics , Gujarat

The following are pronounced guilty in this Court of God after the long drawn argumentative battle has been gong on, since the carnage in Gujarat state, in March/April of 2002. :

Accused 5 th : The LEGAL system of the
country : for taking a lenient view of communal activities in our country, including communal politics and communal organisations and the hatred-spreading media.

Accused 4 th - The POLICE system : for having failed to break loose of the political class, and for having an abysmally poor conviction rate record in communal violence, which emboldens would be criminals.

Accused 3rd - The MEDIA : for having carried the message of lies and hate from the obnoxious, perverted mind to the ordinary man, and for inciting mobs into a killing frenzy.

Accused 2nd - The EDUCATION system : including mass media like cinema, for having ’demonised’ muslims and let communalists ’change’ history as the twisted-in-mind wanted to see it.

Accused 1st - RELIGION : (the supporters of the concept of God - including communal parties) for perpetually creating the impression that their religion was being threatened by the other, and for creating a cult belief and faith which drove people to rape and plunder.

A few pertinent questions seem to beg answers in the Gujarat elections.

1. Why did the ELECTION COMMISSION and the SURPREME COURT allowing such blatant communal campaigning?

Did this not violate the constitution - both in letter and spirit? Has this sort of campaign ever taken place in free India? Can it be allowed to recur? What kind of legal basis does such campaigning have?

There certainly is no dearth of evidence for the communal campaign practised. Is the Election Commission afraid of personal attacks if action were to be taken?

2. Will the criminals of the Post-Godhra carnage - of all hues - including rapists, looters and horrific murderers - be allowed to continue to roam freely, since Mr.Modi has benefitted electorally from their campaigning? Will such politics eventually lead to anarchy in India?
