Suno Kay Hum Hain Jawan - debut album of Noorie, the hot young band from Pakistan.
Indeed! Long-awaited, keenly anticipated, (and thoroughly loved?) Some suggest yes, but some ... well. No doubt the sales have been impressive considering its a debut album which DOESN`T sound like an ubiqutious Abrar-ul-Haq bhangra-pop monologue, or a self-rightous JJ/ Najam 'naat' nor a glorified Coke jingle peddled in the name of a rock song by Junoon , but ... yes but. It is NOT the Noori I discovered in Lahore back in 1996! Today he sounds like a highly talented player bartering his natural talent to play innovative guitar leads and off-the-wall riffs for trendy (thus cliched thus formuliac punk-pop autoeroticism (ala Sum-42 or whatever, and/or a million Green Day and Pearl Jam imitators out there on MTV and [V]. So what`s next? A Nestle Polo Mint sponsorship deal or a dreadful English song (ala Junoon`s 'No More?' Well, whatever, I think I`ll need a bit more convincing from a follow-up album.
