The Missing Pakistanis

Dec 17, 2007

From years of its inception
Witnessed I have all,
Generations before me
And now, in silence
Through its long years
Of formation and promise

What happened?
To the sacred oaths
You have taken,
In names of Islam and
Of democracy,
Of protection and rights
Of us all, the people
Forsaken you have,
The decency and respect

Taken you have, all
In abundance, the citizens
Tortured and abused
In the name of war,
An empty existence,
Of concept and its mechanics

Where are those souls
Into wilderness, they disappeared
Like autumn leaves,
With no traces,
The families in search
For them, for them
To come, to return
To old homes where
Where lives once lived
Those breathing patterns

Come near me,
Enough years spent
In wilderness, in being away
Only in memory and in eyes
Swollen and heavy, from tears!
