Another day, another catastrophe in Pakistan. For all intent and purpose international cricket is done in Pakistan for years to come, you can put a fork in it. We can analyze the root causes to our heart’s content but the fact remains that there was an utter security failure. Naved Qamar the privatization minister is out of his mind if he thinks that the purpose of this naked aggression was anything other than embarrassing the state of Pakistan and putting a question mark on the security condition for foreign dignitaries. That objective was acquired by the enemies with flying colors.
You can rest assured that there is elation amongst the adversaries of Pakistan and we all know who those enemies are. Some have tucked up shalwars (which I am told is requirement for being a muslim now and failure can result in a beheading. jaahil ko agar jehal ka inaam diya jayey….iss haadsa-e-waqt ko kya naam diya jayey.) I am however convinced that these ‘pakistani taleban’, some of them willingly and some unwittingly, are puppets in the hands of those that have a tilak on the forehead.
I am also certain that the enemies are doing their job well because that’s what enemies are supposed to do, whether it’s right or wrong is a different matter all-together. I am sure we weren’t sending bouquets of flowers vis-à-vis khalistan either. The difference is that the enemies are able to deliver havoc and chaos and in process successfully make a case that Pakistan is too unstable a country to have nuclear weapons. It was our job to dispel that notion and people who are responsible for our security and strategic interests have failed us miserably, thanks primarily to perpetual dictatorships in Pakistan.
Those of us who are avid cricket lovers can appreciate Sri Lanka ’s generous offer to tour Pakistan. This was more than a cricketing tour. It was a tour that could have been used as a marketing tool to show the world at large that Pakistan is a safe place for foreigners to invest. Keeping that in mind, we were promised and rightly so that the Lankans would be given security equivalent to security arrangement given to foreign leaders. I assure you that IF we had given the Lankan team as much security as Rehman Malik enjoys, this could have been avoided. This was absolutely not the case yesterday and its criminal and incompetence of the highest order and whoever is responsible should be taken to task right away. And it shouldn’t be rocket science either as to who is responsible for the domestic security of the country and its interests at large.
President Zardari is making one folly after another. So much has been written about the broken promises and his political blunders in my opinion (I am sure zardari is quite impressed with himself) that I just want to scream. As a well-wisher of democracy and more so for Pakistan, I truly wished that this PPP government would deliver on its promises and won’t dismiss them by saying that ‘its not Quran or hadith’. (Like people from Zardari’s class give a hoot about Quran and hadith anyway.)
Our ruling elite need to come to this realization sooner rather than later that this is not the Pakistan of 90’s. If true justice and some real gestures of sincerity aren’t extended in very near future to the poor and ravaged of this country then we are looking at bloodshed on a very big-scale (khakam-badahan).
There is tremendous unease and disenfranchisement in balochistan and NWFP. Government should focus their energies to address those; instead they have opened the front in Punjab. Goebel, the in formation sect. of Hitler said that if you repeat a lie so many times then at the least you will be able to create enough noise to blur the lines between right and wrong. He later committed suicide after killing his own family. Federal ministers are duly warned so they can avoid loosing their mind.
There will be judicial independence in Pakistan. Government would have to revoke the dictatorial clauses of 17th amendment. At some point we must at the least embarrass the generals (instead of guard of honors) that have violated the constitution of Pakistan at the barrel of gun. No one should try to steal the mandate of the people of Punjab thru horse-trading and coercion, if they insist; they’ll become history in Punjab politics. The above are inevitable. Cuteness and tomfoolery alone just wont do anymore. The sooner PPP hierarchy realizes, the better it will be for their own political future in Pakistan . It is truly exhausting how we manage to jump from one crisis to another. May Allah swt have mercy on us!
