Sometimes

Aug 26, 2003

Sometimes the world seems so small

You could trap it in a seed.

Weeks pass before you notice

How, silently, it’s teased the sunlight

Into its fragile heart, and now dances

Drunk in the wide, limitless air.

And sometimes, it’s all we can do

To keep trudging through the ruins

As we frantically scrape the laughter

Off the shards strewn across the ground,

The jagged edges of broken memory

Cutting sharp slits into the soul.
