So we are now in week four in Sri Lanka.
Our three week stint with the local NGO was miserable. David and I have positions now with Volunteer Sri lanka.org (volunteersrilanka.org). We are the volunteer coordinators which means we have a big ole database and help place volunteers in the camps that we visit. We also have to figure out the new direction for VSL. I love it. Volunteer Sri Lanka is not an NGO and not a government run entity. As you may be reading back home, this place is a mess in terms of rebuilding because of the government and a whole host of other issues. VSL is all about bypassing that right now and just getting to the people and helping them out in the camps. It is run by volunteers and it’s for volunteers...a great resource.
On that note, we are looking for volunteers. Carpenters, builders, engineers, laborers, architects, administrators, educators you name it. The first flux of people are out and replacements are needed. If you are interested, its a great experience. Go to the website and fill out a form so that we can place you.
