Promise Unkept
This time it was our way to Lahore from Islamabad to participate in SOFTEC 2004 (All Pakistan Software Exhibition and Competition) at National University of Computer and Emerging Science
rel="tag" href="/tag/Lahore">Lahore. First of all I would like to congratulate the team of SOFTEC on organizing such a great event, definitely one or two members did not do it but as I heard there were more than 250 students involved in organizing this event. I went there not only for participation but also as an observer to let my people know about what were their strong and weak points so that we plan our upcoming event by considering all the facts, which I have noticed there. And I was only able to observe not to win any prize :d .
The opening ceremony was very good after the welcome words by SOFTEC president it was the turn of their Director and one of the member of BOD (Board of Directors). Then comes Dr. Amir Matin Chairman PSEB who told everyone that now the time of those business oriented sotwares has gone now we need people who come with some R & D based projects as everyone present there in Exhibition saw some (But unfortunately the judges could not see).
Well, the above words were something about the event now I come to the actual point due to which I wrote this article.
As I described above was that everyone was eager to see some research and development based projects and believe me in the end no R & D based project was on Top three positions. My question is to the judges (who were from top most universities from Lahore (FAST, LUMS etc.)) that why they were not able to see which are R & D based projects, specially I would point out two projects on Grid Computing and one on Parallel Virtual Machines.
Isn’t it the thing that they wanted that FAST would win the first prize and when chief guest will see that WOW! FAST won the first prize, YES it is the best university the others are dumb.
I would like to mention one more thing that the project which was at top position and from FAST Islamabad “did not win even a single prize at Dr. AQ Khan Competition and at GIKI (Ghulam Ishaq Khan Institute TOPI) “.
All the participants of Software Competition were surprised by the biased decision of the judges as all of them were saying earlier that they will encourage research based projects and in the end no research based project was able to win a single prize.
Please comment on “ Is there any chance that our nation will excel in the field of Information Technology in the presence of this sort of people”.
No offense FASTIANS as your work was great but I have some obligations to the judges.
