Life Goes On in Pakistan

Posted: Nov 7, 2009 Sat 11:49 pm     Views: 269    Interacts: 10

The world media are focusing on scores of deadly terrorist attacks in the last four weeks claiming over 300 innocent lives in Pakistani cities, and tacking the military's counterinsurgency campaign unfolding in South Waziristan. However, the Pakistani blogosphere is buzzing with the news and pictures of the Fashion Week in Karachi.

The key point of this posting is to show that many Pakistanis are refusing to be intimidated by the TTP terrorists and trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy by going about their business. I disagree with those who are passing harsh value judgments on the models, the designers or the fashion industry. They are every bit as human as the rest of us, with all our strengths and flaws.

Irrespective of how people choose to lead their lives, they're not too different from you and me. The only thing they don't do is impose themselves and their opinions on other people and try and direct other people's lives for mere personal belief.

Life goes on, THAT IS TRUE, But putting up these pictures to prove that is a little insensitive UNLESS you meant it as sarcasm. The true representation of “Life Goes On” in a country that’s dealing with tough times will be a child going to school, people going to work, family get togethers…etc

Life for moneyed and influential people hardly ever changes.

asadaly,

Tahir expressed his p.o.v hard but even in soft words you cannot deny what is said. trying to uncover the past of the most models is like opening up a pendora box.

for the sake of argument,

do you know who is 'living' with ali azmat? she is one of the top & highly paid model.

the indian movie 'fashion' did gave a glimpse of what goes down in that world, and it's no different across the border either.

Clarification: I'm decently homophobic and not even remotely 'artistic' (or remotely related anyone that fits the definition).

Reason: Tahir is of the opinion these models are blackmailed, tortured or forced into wearing skimpy clothing and walking the ramp. Now if someone would be kind enough to burst his bubble and show him a copy of a modelling contract or a pay check, he'll know why these women walk.

As far as the alleged homosexuality of designer is concerned, it's his prerogative. As far as his or her mothers and sisters and 'female cousins' are concerned, They will walk when and if they please. Being that uptight makes you look rather stupid.

I would request all gay fashion designers to emply their own sisters, female cousins and mothers for modelling to retain the wealth within the family.

Shameless elites!
