Ashraf G:

I really liked the first two for their color combination, perfume, light, dancing, music & liveliness. Shades of metallic gold with deep blue and copper are very pretty.

Probably, next time we would like to invite you to one of the PACS Events in NJ around Thanksgiving or Eid , if you’d be interested to tour the East Coast with your paintings.

Regards.

Dear Mr. Goreja,

I’m afraid that’s all I have to show. Not very good at recording my work and as for professionalism??? Ha ha; let’s just say I’m also an international artists because one family in Germany has my work:) There are paintings out there which don’t even have my signature on them. The little icon that you’re talking about was done when I was 20. It is incomplete because the spheres were meant to be calligraphised.

I’m chipping away at four completely different disciplines, which is why I’m progressing very slowly - hence not enough time to devote myself.

No, I use the word professional because I get paid decently - professionally - (I hope a tin of lollipops are considered decent) whenever some person commissions me. Only had one exhibition and even that was out of a ’larf’. Didn’t know where to store it so ended up selling/giving away the work. No Internet shinternets.

Am an art idiot. I do not understand the non-arty intricacies of the subject because I’ve never gone through the correct route. Seen friends go into art courses in unis and come out bankrupt. It’s an expensive subject. This is one of the reasons why I made the decision to do Pharmacy. It’s a secure job, you can work whenever you want. If you know your contacts, you can work for two days and do all the other things that you want to do for the remaining five. With that sort of a freedom and cash, you can begin fuelling your real pursuits. A very Desi thing to do I believe:)

I think once I get my Pharm out of the way, I’ll be able to sit down and sort a few things out.

I believe you started in 1967. What made you give preference to your creative side?

Thank you.

My Dear Umer.

AsSalam. It is alright. Don’t worry. Some times we all make some mistakes and
in fact that was not a serious misunderstanding. You don’t need any apology.

Quite often I read your comments on Chowk web site. You are a great writer. At such a
young age if you are writing so decently, I believe, after a few years, do you will a great writer.

Your beautiful painting astonished me. It is an excellent painting. Congratulations.
Do have more works to display on Chowk or you have your own website? I am interested
view your all paintings. I read that you are a professional painter. I so you must have exhibited
your works somewhere.

The prices of my paintings are in US $ and not in pounds. And none of these painting is
for sale. I have nearly 310 paintings in my storage. Many still have to come in my website.
InshaAllah, one day. Presently I am busy to complete my book of poems, which is due by
summer next year.

My works is listed in 2350 websites, and in many languages. You can also translate my
entire site in eight different languages. By the way I told you.

All the best. May Allah highly reward you and give great success in your life.

Dear Mr. Goreja

I must apologise for getting your name wrong. I went over to your website and suddenly everything made sense. I had assumed that like all other Chowkies, you were in your 20s or early 30s.

And when I asked you about the price and how I’d make it at home, it was because I had recently been watching the British Comedy, Goodness Gracious Me, where Indians make everything at home…and all they need is an aubergine.

But there was nothing like the price tag of 48,500 Pounds to shut me up.

Thank you.

Goreja sahab: Spectacular!

--

Umer: LOL! Like that woman in Goodness Gracious Me (Nina Wadia), all we need is one big round aubergine and everything can be made in the desi home. Cheers!

Asif,

Ooh, this is gorgeous!!! My favourites are Preachers of Love and Innocent Temptation. You know, I’d ask you for the prices of those two but being of Pakistani origins, I think I’ll just make it at home:)

Let’s have some more (and that includes details also). Thank you.
