Two beautiful 17th century tombs are situated in Nakodar. One of them belongs to Ustad (teacher) Mohammed Momin Hussaini alias Hafizah, a musician in the service of 'Khan-e-Khana'- the chamberlain of Emperor Jahangir. The other tomb belongs to Haji Jamal, his disciple. The mausoleums are similar in architecture to Emperor Humayun's tomb in Delhi and stand out as buildings of great attraction.
Nakodar is a small town, about 16 miles from Jalandhar( about 10 miles from my village!). It was an important market town during Mughal empire and the old GT road used to pass throught the town. The place where Noor Jehan was brought up (Noor Mehal, famous for Noor Mehal di saraaN) is just few miles to the west. Before partition, majority of the population was Muslim and the town was associated with some great urdu poets- Ghazal-go Josh Malsiyani being one of them.
