I generally am not a click-happy photographer, so it came as a bit of a surprise when I recently realized how many pictures in my album were of children of the countries and cultures I have had a chance to visit.
Children exhibit these genuine emotions and expressions that we adults tend to cover up as a sign of our supposed maturity. And so perhaps it is this longing for the innocence of my own childhood that makes me raise my camera whenever I see children smile at me as I walk through their streets and neighborhoods.
Today, as millions of children suffer from wars, hunger and oppression wrought by us adults, let us take a moment to reflect on how innocent we once were...
This gallery is a tribute to the children of the world...

& a wonderful mix of places & expressions.
shobig_sifar, you reminded me of another one Ibn-e-Insha’s poems. "ye bacha kis ka bacha hai..."
Thanks
I finally got around to seeing these pics. I must admit that this is a beautiful selection. Perhaps if you could provide the approximate date on each image along with a bit of narration on how you ended up visiting that place, it would be even more enjoyable!
Excellent work, again!
aimie, dr sahib, and sandhu- thank you for your kind words :)
dear atif,
as always, your photographs are too close to life. One does not need to write volumes to describe the essence of life--the tenderness, emotions, respect for others need just a heart which feels and an eye which sees.
Congrats on this wonderful work. This is one of the best exhibitions I have seen.
Hope to see much more.
You have such a sharp artistic sight and a compassionate heart!!
Thanks for bringing childhood into focus and congrats for the good work.
This is probably the best exhibition I have seen aftre a long time. Hope to see much more
but thank you for sharing them with us! and yes as big shoe has said "let us take a moment to reflect on how innocent we once were..." (big shoe the philosopher of chowk - hehehe).
ooh, before i forget, let me add that despite how each picture is poignant in its own right the best one has to be the four rebellious boys with their caps turned backwards. i do hope they carry on with their rebellious zeal!
I am just wondering why only half of the people are smiling at you, the other half don’t seem to like you , kind of reaction you get on chowk :)
The boy in Costa Rica, doesn’t he remind you of yourself ?
Good pictures, but you know i have seen better ones from you :)
Lastly, as always I hate you for travelling to all those places but thanks for sharing them, so what’s next? Africa?
avi, ignite, Zahra thank you!
subash, I use canon powershot S2 IS
Shobig payee, your sentence "Hopefully as the kids grow up, the bond between them stays as strong in the absence of that rope as it is with them tied to it." has made that string so much more meaningful. And that poem by Ibne Insha is hauntingly beautiful.
let us take a moment to reflect on how innocent we once were...
Here’s something that you expressed likeness for and that perhaps best articulates this very feeling:
Aik chhota sa laRka tha meiN jin dinoN
aik maylay meiN puhuncha hamakta hua
ji machalta tha aik aik shaey pe magar
jaib khali thi kuchh maul lei na saka
laut aaya liyay hasrateiN sainkRoN
aik chhota sa laRka tha meiN jin dinoN
Khair mehroomiyoN kay wo din tau gaey
aaj mayla laga hai oosi shaan se
aaj chaahuuN tau ik ik dukaaN maul luuN
aaj chaahuuN tau sara jahaaN maul luuN
na-rasaai ka ab jee meiN dhaRka kahaaN
per wo chhota sa alhaR sa laRka kahaaN!
~Ibn-e-Insha
Keep up the good work!
Very sweet!

What the hell has happened to the replies? And why are the pictures acting so weird? Since Farzana has taken a sabbatical, apparently Chowk’s technological future is in jeopardy ;)
BYW, which camera do you use generally?
Wonderful Pictures!!!
I was waiting for your picture gallery impatiently.
Simply amazing!!!
Congratulations!!! finally your picture gallery got recognition by chowk staff.
I believe children are angels from heaven sent by God as a reminder to preserve our innocence, trust and love with an open mind and heart.
I believe children are among us to show us the purity of nature with unconditional love and affection that we humans have forgotten in this game of selfishness.
Sometimes, child in us try to find joy in doing lil silly things and thats the real happiness. Atleast I do small mischiefs to preserve my childhood for the rest of my life.
Children show us how to love with tenderness and care. Children are God’s reflection for our guidance with innocent souls.
At the end, I believe children are sent to us by God(al mighty) as gifts to value’em, learn from’em and let’em be our guidance to preserve the beauty of the mother earth.
This is such a beautiful collection. Brings out so many emotions. Many many thanks for putting this one out,
Rgds,
Avkrishna
