... not many people are aware that an hour’s drive south from toronto is a jewel hidden in trees, hills and vineyards on the bank of niagara river. it is called niagara-on-the-lake. one hardly finds a room in one of the many quaint bed and breakfast outlets during a summer weekend ... some as old as over a hundred years. the entire little town is an amazing amulgum of old buildings on huge lots with a riotous bed of flowers and manicured lawns .

....for the outdoorsy folks, there is an old golf course which claims to be the oldest in north America or you could hike, bike or rollerblade on the niagara river recreation trail all the way to fort eirie which is located about sixty kilometers south west of niagara on the lake. fort george has a museum showcasing the history of the area from the 18th century onwards. or you could ride on the whirlpool jet boats which twist and turn frighteningly on the mighty Niagara river’s white waters. for the faint hearted a helicopter ride provides as much thrill.you could also rent a bike or join a guided bicycle tour of the wineries. picnic lunch baskets are also available with the best house wine from most of the wineries and you could have a lazy picnic lunch on the banks of the river among a cluster of old trees and grassy knoll....

... this little town, considered by many as the prettiest town in Ontario, attracts thousands of visitors who stroll it’s old streets, enjoy the comforts of fine hotels and charming bed and breakfast homes, dine in varied restaurants catering to an international clientele, and for a little while the ambience transports one to a journey back in time… to a more leisurely time.
