On Indo-Pak CBM’s and peace overtures:
"Hum ney koi chaalia-supari kai liyea, ya bhangray aur mujroun ke
liyea tou india sey doosti nahi karni na ji. Humara sirf aik masla
hai aur wou hai Kashmir. Agar yea hul na hoa, tu baki sari cheezain
tu phir sirf, khana-puri hongien".


On the issue of nuclear proliferation:
"Mein koi chamcha nahi ho, bilkul sach baat keh raha houn...jis
tarah Pervaiz Musharraf ney Pakistan kou Nuclear maamley mein sey
nikala hai...all credit goes to him.


On Abdul Qadeer Khan & the Muslim ’Ummah’:
Dr. Abdul Qadeer is a hero. Barey achey achey kaam kiyea hein ji
in-houn ney. School, hospital banwai hain. Laiken bahir jis kou
bhee agley pech kastey hain, wou kehta hai ’Abdul Qadeer’. Aur
yea Muslim Ummah kou dekh lain, kya kiya inhoun ney hamarey
sath ?, 707 bhar bhar kai sab kuch bhijwa diya aagey".


On Politics in the west vs. in Pakistan:
"YahaN British mein siyasut karni tu bari a’saan he ji. Hamara
voter tu...he is very demanding. Agar Dhok Siyaal mein koi saat
rupaye ka bulb bhee fuse ho jai, ya raat gai tube-well ka koi
fuse urr jai, tu raat bara bajjey phone mujhey aata hai.

Wazarat kai maamlaat mein uljhey honey kai bawajood loag expect
kartey hain kai agar kisi ke walid kee wafaat ho jai tu mein wahan
funeral pur pohn-choun. Agar aap na attend kar sakey, aur phir
un sey vote mang’ney jaien tu agley kehtey hain...’Meray piyo ne
te ik vari marna si, tussi te vote roz roz len aana ae’ ".

Sheikh Rashid is my favourite politician. The political insight
you get from hearing his colorful, candid and clear banter on
politics for half an hour is equal to a years worth of c-span.
His frankness is in striking contrast to the politicians in the
west, whose purposely vague, couched and conditional
statements are stifling and most irritating.

He is not a feudal politician, or a psuedo-intellectual drawing
room politician. He’s a student leader who carved out his own
constituency and career in politics. A populist, a patriot and
above all... a fighter. No wonder he is the favourite politician
of the press and the public alike in Pakistan.
