Exit Orczy, Enter Caine

Enjoyed reading The Scarlet Pimpernel. I would have liked it better if I had not read the abridged version! Marguerite Blakeney is a French socialite married to an Englishman Percy Blakeney, whom all their friends regard as a dull, stupid man. The main story revolves round the escapades during the French Revolution; of the French aristocrats - this with the help of the ever-elusive Scarlet Pimpernel!! The French elite are trying to capture the SP and SP hoodwinks them yet again. Finding out who is The Scarlet Pimpernel and tying up some loose ends - That’s the story.

Well the reason I bought ’God’s Little Acre’ was because I loved the title, but the book is trash - at least I felt so. I know I should not be so blunt, but then I really really did not like the book. Amazon gives varied reviews too; some regard it as an American masterpiece. But I hardly find it so... To me the best American masterpiece so far is A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, and another is To Kill a Mockingbird but God’s Little Acre withers in comparison with these books. Different people, differing views! Anyway, it will not figure in my Books’ Hall of Fame.

I have now moved on to ’The Prodigal Son’ by Hall Caine - read the first three chapters in bus today. I know I am going to like it...

Thanks to lot of idle time, have identified 7 more books (from the Top 100 books BBC rated this year) that I want myself to read. It will be tough to get these books here I know that, but these will be in my radar now.

But for books, the boredom continues. Planning to leave early today - yeah I have made it a habit to leave early, it looks like. Have lot of cleaning up to do at home, last weekend I had gone visiting my parents. A backlog of cleaning and dusting and cooking awaits me…
