Muslims, Hindus , Sikhs

It never ceases to amaze me how we all sing praises of our various religions.
Hindus- Ours is one of the oldest religions. It has been one of the most tolerant. Our culture is the greatest!! etc etc.

Muslims- Usually say they are the greatest because the prophet said so and because other religions target us so stick together and fight.

Sikhs- (specially during terrorism during the early 80s)- We are one of the most modern religions who left all the rituals behind. We are second class citizens in India.

TEN YEAR CENSUS- I cant find a column for no religion- agnostic- so what do I fill in? Born a sikh- but the first Guru, Guru Nank asked not to be called a muslim or a Hindu- So why should i say I’m a sikh? i was born into a Sikh family- I could have been a muslim or hindu just as well. My ancestors converted in the 1700s from Islam to Sikhism- looking back i am glad- I have problems in India with the emphasis on the male heir and I guess a muslim society would have either made me more of a rebel or my family would have just given up on me! Yet why do we take it so much to heart? If someone paints Guru Gobind black, should I as a Sikh get all flustered. And if someone calls the prophet names, should we take out a fatwa against them! Yes the BJP members are often fanatic, yes muslims are often fanatics, yes Bhindranwale was a fanatic; SO WHAT!!!

God doesnt need defending by us. yes some muslims are fanatics, yet I remember my patient, a weak anaemic woman with a mentally retarded girl and 3 other children. I tried talking other husband for a tubectomy but he wouldnt bugde- she had another pregnancy and the child was stillborn. Luckily another muslim woman was brought by her mother in law , a practical woman who realised little things like this dont make her a bad muslim and had her daughter in law’s tubes tied. A third patient , a male alcohol dependent driver lamented how his uncle wouldnt let him get a TV for fear it would be a bad influence and how he couldnt perform the daily prayers 5 times specailly with his work. Besides what is the point when your heart isnt in it. Is he a bad muslim? And the RSS- definitely they are fanatics- poor Ram must be turning in his grave over all the mayhem over the place he was supposedly born! The most sincere rambhaktas are probably the least religious because by violence they are desecrating whatever Ram was. Of course there are those who scoff at his being God- a man who deserted his wife for hearsay- Sita was probably more of a Goddess. Still, scoff at jesus, Ram, the Prophet, Gobind- throw them all into the sea- break all the temples, mosques, gurudwaras. Maybe build a few good orphanages, old age homes, leper homes, homes for the mentally ill and mentally retarded- the religious coffers are overflowing and what is the result- another modern Crusade! I agree the muslims are being targetted- so what - get out of it- Stop being a muslim, or a Hindu, or a sikh.
