PAN cards - i had got my PAN number, but not the card. No follow-ups happened from my side;-) Many whose applications were submitted with mine had received their cards. Then in those days, I was fine with just having the number.
Two-three years passed, then i got into this rut of closing on things. And they have made it very neat and streamlined too - I could apply for PAN card online. There is a website which kind of makes matters easier, www.tin-nsdl.com. One needs to browse for the ’Change in PAN Card’ application. All i needed was a coloured photograph, a DD for 66 rupees (and of course a commission of 35 rupees), couple of statements like proof of address etc.
And their helpdesk is also very helpful, extremely helpful in fact. And they have appropriate status updates too:
Your application is under process at NSDL.
Your details have been sent to the Income Tax Departmnet for verification
Your request for reprint of PAN Card has been accepted by the Income Tax Department. Your reprinted PAN Card will be despatched to you shortly
I had to shell out 101 rupees and some of my time for someone else’s fault, but then i blindly spend money on books, so this time i also spent on my card. The status update from my side is that i am awaiting my PAN card.
****
Some time last week, i received my PAN Card
