Separation

Hmmm. Some time last year, I wrote in my i-log that Pakistan will create friendly ties with Israel. I think it has happened - and the various statements to that effect are little balloons that the goverment is sending up to test the temperature of the nation.

There is no temperature, literally or figuratively. (Ah, the cold! The cold!)

All right so now I am going to say something about Karachi. In whatever political form, this city, along with Gwadar, will practically be separated from Pakistan. Karachi is going to see a sharp rise in incoming investment, and soon it will become a port city with a special administrative status within the country.

This transition will be largely very smooth with little protest from any quarter. There will be, for some time, a deluge of conspiracy theories and what not. Some of those, of course, will be correct. All of those, however, will be put to rest quickly.

Let’s wait and see.
