I want to write about Livermore, not his real name, I don’t know his real name. But livermore was a great chess player. This was about 1983 or 85, I can’t remember now, could have been 81. Well it was another New York Open and I was there. Staying at the Penta on 34th and 7th Ave. The tournament was fun with all the ups and downs, but what was even more fun was to stay up all night and watch Livermore play chess in the skittles section. He was not a grandmaster nor was he interested in playing tournament chess. livermore was the master of berating his opponents. And beating them psycologically and taking their money. It was a sheer comedy show. On top of it there poetry in motion in the chess that he played. Let me give you some examples, I have to strain my memory here, but here goes:
Livermore: I am penetrating you deeply (as he slides his rook to the seventh rank). As he slams a piece down he shouts take this you piece of garbage. I am going to rape your lady as a pawn attacks the queen. I could go on,.. but I have to run an errend. So BRB (thats be right back to you all)
