INDIA TO OPEN THREE RELIEF CAMPS ALONG L.O.C.

Posted: Nov 1, 2005 Tue 09:53 pm     Views: 29

NEW DELHI\SHIMLA: Quake-hit Pakistan may still be slightly hesitant about taking up the offer but India has gone ahead and organised relief centres at three places along the LoC to help people from PoK.

Defence minister Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday said the relief centres at the three points (Teetwal in Tangdhar sector, Kaman post in Uri and Chakan da Bagh in Poonch) were ready to treat and provide relief supplies to people from across LoC.

"The problem which they (Pakistan) are saying is that there may not be adequate number of people who can come to these stations... communication is difficult.

This has been arranged in consultation with the foreign offices of both countries. Whoever is in a position to come will receive the relief material and be treated," said Mukherjee.

The MEA said a delegation would be in Islamabad on Friday for talks with the Pakistanis about opening up border points.

The camps cannot be operational until the Pakistanis have agreed to let people cross LoC to come across .

The stations might be ready, each with a 10-bed hospital, medical accommodation for 100 people and relief material, but Pakistan is yet to clear the Indian proposal.
