Some of you might have been baffled by Editor in Chief’s berating of a nameless website and the person who runs it in her ilog. Well guess what, the proponent of the other website has responded to Farzana’s criticism on his website. The curious amongst you can check out http://www.desibukbuk .com/forum for the response.

This is a wonderful thing. We have now got an editorial war going between proponents of chowk and bukbuk. It reminds me of the great editorial wars of 1950s in Marathi newspapers. On one side was P. K. Atre , the man of many talents, who wore many hats. He was at one point or the other in his life a teacher, a principle, a poet, an essayist, a play-write, an editor, a reporter, a film producer, a song writer and a director. On other side was N. S. Phadke, one of the most versatile authors ever to write in Marathi.

I don’t remember what exactly caused these two doyens of Marathi literature to start the feud, but while it lasted it provided great entertainment to the countless ordinary Marathi newspaper readers. Both parties used all their wits and talents to come up with wacky attacks on each other.

However, these debates proved most entertaining when Atre and Phadke were at their juvenile best. For example, Phadke once claimed in his newspaper that Atre was like a "mad dog" who was barking for no reason. The next day, a cartoon appeared prominently in Atre’s newspaper Maratha. It showed a dog named "Atre" urinating on a pole named "Phadke" :D

Here’s hoping that the feud between Ferzana and Verzie turns out to be as entertaining as the one between Atre and Phadke.
