A most sweet little girl (born in the USA) came to me and requested, " "Mor" nu paani dena, main naeen peena". (I am going to serve water to "Mor"; the water is not for me).....and repeated it a few times in the Malwi Punjabi accent.
I couldn’t figure out who this "Mor" was. I thought these kids call each other by nick names and it was some kid with a nickname ’mor’ (peacock in Punjabi).
So, I fetched a glass. She extended her both hands, and took two glasses.
I was confused.
Then it dawned on me, she was using the English word "more" in her Punjabi.
Usually I go ballistic and retort with a biting wisecrack when someone tries to speak Pinglish with me.
She was so adorable that, in this exception, I simply smiled.
