Vladimir Kramnik Wins Unified World Championship Title
Vladimir Kramnik of Russia won the unified World Championship Title in a climactic tie-break yesterday, winning 2.5:1.5 in four Rapid chess games, dethroning Veselin Topalov of Bulgaria. At the awards ceremony, FIDE President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov thanked both players and pointed out that 13 years ago, the 13th world champion left FIDE, and today on the 13th of October we culminate the unification process.
The match finish was covered by worldwide TV networks which announced ’Only one King is left standing.’
