Last night, President Bush painted for american people an extremely scary picture of what was to come. He warned of the awful consequences of a US defeat: growth of radical Islamic extremism, jihadist gaining strength and new recruits, toppling of moderate governments, chaos in the mideast region, terrorists using oil revenues to fund their ambitions, and an emboldened Iran pursuing nuclear weapons.
His solution to all these fearsome scenarios? An additional 21,000 US troops to Iraq!!! Yes, a mere 15% of the US troops already there is all that would be needed for american people to sleep in peace.
Congressman Charles Rangel of NY has it right - congress, the decision makers, and the middle america will continue to support adventurous foreign wars until and unless the cost of the wars is equitably distributed.
