Jinnah: Yasser’s posers & My reply thereto

Posted: Jan 13, 2007 Sat 03:35 am     Views: 235

Jinnah fyi had already retired from politics in mid June 1947...

=====This sounds fictitious in the face of truths that read like:

1. Jinnah was the sole negotiator for AIML in dealings with Congress or the GG or the Government of Britain.

2. Jinnah presided over the AIML and that’s cant be called retirement from politics.

3. Jinnah even presided over AIML (yes, All India Muslim League in 1948 and offered himself to go to Indian Dominion to fight for the Muslims left behind, perhaps thinking that India is an eternal bitch to sleep with the politics of Muslim League!) and u consider it as retirement from politics??=====

the reason why Jinnah could become the Governor General was because his party was going to be the majority in the Pakistan Constituent Assembly and was going to form the government.

===By this logic Nehru or Gandhi shud have become the GG in India. ====

he had afterall rejected offers of Indian premiership and had become the Governor General of Pakistan

====This is highly pretentious, Yes it is! Gandhi offered him to be the Premier of United India, yes he did offer. BUT, GANDHI SAID IT VERY CLEARLY THAT HE WAS DEALING/DISCUSSING WITH JINNAH IN HIS PERSONAL CAPACITY THERFORE WHATEVER DECIDED BETWEEN THEM IN THE MEETING IS NOT “BINDING” ON CONGRESS.

Liaquat ridiculed Gandhi abt this. Jinnah realized the futility of this meeting and the meeting was, as expected became a failure. Now, dear Yasser, would this amounts to Jinnah getting a proper offer to the Premier of India? I don’t think so.====

Secondly, he did not become the governor general because he was a military man holding the gun but because he was a highly popular civilian politician whose party formed the majority in parliament...

===By this logic, Gandhi or Nehru shud have become the GG in India???====

I agree but is it not true that Presidents of the United States actually exercise all the powers you’ve enumerated...

====Dear Yasser, I already said that India was not fully independent to manipulate the India Independence Act and Government of India Act 1935. Jinnah can be the US-type Prez only after Pakistan became the republic.

My points on the powers of Pakistan’s GG were as they reflected in the India Independence Act 1947. They are not my words (appointing the vice-prez etc..). It looks like u want to picture me as a man splicing falsehoods. These points were taken from ToP.=====

"3. Over ride majority opinion of the Government "

Ans: I have read the interim constitution many times... and I am afraid I just don’t see how this is... nor did Jinnah do it.

===You need to ask this point to urslef as to why Jinnah got this power apportioned to himself as GG?

If u read the dialogues between Jinnah and MB, it makes us very clear that that Jinnah wanted to override the powers of Prime Minister and HE would RULE in Pakistan.

THE POINTS I ENUMERATED ARE NOT MY OWN BUT TAKEN FROM ToP. ====

"4. Frame Rules of Business"

Ans: Again rules of business for what? The government, parliament, the GG, what?

===Yasser, this job is normally done by Speakers in any Assembly/Parliament. If u ask me why, I don’t have an answer. Perhaps Jinnah wanted everything to himself and the enjoy the sunshine in new Pakistan as the demi-god of Pakistan, which he’s now there. As an aside I would say, we don’t give that much importance to Nehru or Gandhi the way u guys give it to Jinnah. He’s a demi-god. His words are quoted as if they constitute His Will which must be followed. Perhaps this is the by-product of the Islamic way of thinking where u endlessly quote, hair-split the words of Qoran.====

5. GOVERNOR GENERAL TO PRESIDE CABINET MEETINGS (MAI-BAAP COMPLEX)"

Ans: As the President of the United States chairs Cabinet Meetings ...

====Indian Dominion GG (Mountbatten and later Rajagopalachi) never presided over cabinet meetings. They were more of titular heads of the state, Not the heads of the government.====

And the powers that Jinnah exercised were completely constitutional and legal ...

===Jinnah made it legal by modifying the Adaptation Orders. The acts of Jinnah may me legal but they are motivated.====

Meanwhile didn’t Independent India dismiss several ministries during Nehru’s rule?

===U are comparing apples with potatoes. Provincial Ministries are different. Any Prez dismissing the Union govt can be compared with ur argument. Though Ambedkar wanted the Art 356 to be a dead instrument…people misused it starting with Nehru. If u don’t know it’s not illegal. I haven’t heard of dismissals for the last ten years.====

The key to democracy should be:

1. constitutional civilian leadership

2. people’s participation in the election process

3. freedom of speech

4. Independent judiciary

5. Mechanism for the transfer of power.

This is my view...

====This is my view as well.====
