What is a Hindu identity? And what exactly are the
Hindutva folks trying to revive? When did it die? If
this H Identity cannot be equated to the Indian
identity, as you say and with which I agree, then of
what use is to an Indian in a national scale, as a
national movement?
If there is an essence of Hinduism it resides in the
option to define it in one’s own individual and
personal terms. I would hate to relinquish that option
to a bunch of people who would define it for me.
I can go along with this, that indians need a national
identity. But why a Hindu one?
If Hindutva indeed is a "political, intellectual,
social and religious movement" as you say, then it
seems very dangerously close to fascism.
