They were Jews, Christians, Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists and Parsis. They were black, white and brown, from every imaginable corner of the world. Hating everyone they saw, retching at the stink of the one seated beside them. Gathered together in the same room, for the same reason; worship.
The Preacher stood up. They had chosen him for his demolishing power of speech, his brilliant pearls of wisdom. He looked carefully at the congregation before him, satisfied…this would be his Ultimate Sermon.
Unity in diversity…
“Fellow followers,” he began, “Welcome to our annual Congregation. I shall begin with recitation of a few verses from our revered Book.”
Leaning forward, he removed form a shelf the large, gold-bound Book and placed it on the table before him, the spine towards the Congregation. The Exalted Name, by which they had lived their lives for so many years, was embroidered in delicate silver; The Bigot Gospel.
