Many religious events have a political impact. There are far fewer political events that have a religious dimension, but such do exist.
Though I am not Muslim, I have posted for almost one year at http://www.progressiveislam.org where, lately I recommend several excellent articles here at chowk.com.
I can understand why a website might distance itself from the Religion category. I have seen forums where religious discussion is tolerated and politics is taboo.
I suppose one hallmark of equanimity is when no topic is too controversial to be considered in a tranquil manner.
