Gleaned some interesting stuff online about it:
1) I vaguely recall it being mentioned that some of the opposition boycotted the vote, although i could not find any proof of that, and I may have mixed that up with one of the other amendments that ZAB made to the unanimous constituiton of 1973.
2) Apparently there was a clash between the JI workers and Ahmadis in Rabwah which triggered some protests, however the protests were nowhere near the scale of those in the 1950’s.
3) The consensus seems to be that ZAB feared a repeat of the 1950’s riot leading to his ouster?
4) Apparently the amendment led to the creation of a full fledged Minister for religious affairs, the first in the 1970’s appointed by ZAB was none other then Maulana Whiskey himself Maulana Kausar Niazi. Also Niazi himself was opposed to the amendment according to his book and apparently he’d convinced ZAB not to go ahead with it, but ZAB was influenced by someone else and pushed it through.
