"Awkwardly for secularists, it took the AK government to pass the most radical of women's reforms since Ataturk. Husbands are no longer officially heads of household, and wives no longer need their consent to work. Laws letting rapists off the hook if they married their victims have gone; new ones make intra-marital rape a criminal offense and scrap reduced sentences for honor killings."

The only hijacking here is what you are doing Atif2.
If Elitist secularists think AKP is NOT secular... then those secularists are as wrong as you who thinks Jinnah is NOT secular... though Jinnah was more westernised than the AKP.
Remember Erdogan was banned by these elitist "secularists" for reciting the same poem Kemal Ataturk had recited during the war of independence.
Both Kemal Ataturk and Mahomed Ali Jinnah were secularists and also people who wanted to uplift their Muslim nations.
Calling Jinnah a Maulana ... something which he abhorred... only makes you as guilty as the elitist secularists that you hate so much in Turkey.
And sadly Pakistan has been ruled not by liberals like Jinnah.. but by those freaks like you Atif2 who have tried to grow beards .. even for Pakistan, while claiming to give all equal rights... after all ... it was these "liberals" who passed the Objectives Resolution, introduced a state religion and apostasised Ahmadis...

atif here's a quote:
"2.193. And fight them [Mullahs] on until there is no more Tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah. But if they cease, Let there be no hostility except to those [Mullahs] who practise oppression."
-Holy Quraan
Thus the Quraan enjoined Ataturk to fight the Mullahs. Unfortunately he did not cease hostility even after the Mullahs stopped being oppressive. The policy was so successful that today's diluted Turk Mullahs are carrying out a series of purges of Shariah laws (rather laws of the highly questionable 'four schools of thought') and begging to join the EU rather than their jahil brethren of the East.

oh and one more thing - what is with you two and the hijackings?! I mean, you have recently been clobbered after unsuccessfully trying to hijack Jinnah as a "secularist". And now you are labeling AKP as "secularist" too?
whats the matter? dont you guys have role models of your own, that you have to hijack islamist personalities as "secularists"???!!!
Maulana Jinnah Zindabad
Mullah Abdullah Gul Zindabad

manto - not so fast! For turk secularist elist kanjroon, AKP are the "radikal" mullahs.
also, so called "liberals" have ruled Pakistan for 49 out of 60 years. And the result is similar to what was in turkey before mullahs came to power - women are still oppressed in Pakistan.
inshallah it will change once the last remnants of colonialists are smashed with the same bombs they used on pakistani masses for the past 60 years.
