- The Lessons From Nature
From what the driver from upcountry said, changes in lifestyles are marked by changes in timings. Like say a 100 years ago, rural folk used to get up at cockcrow, and be in the fields, working away. Then around eight o cloc k, which for us city folks mostly is breakfast time, the field/farm worker of old, would have his big satisfying square meal. Then by 10 o clock of daytime, would start winding up his field/farm work.
Set free his animals,in their shady shelter, feed, water them, cut and collect fodder for them, clean, check them, tend to their needs and call it a day.By a little past full glowering noon, he would have a puff at his ‘hookah’, gossip with his workers, and then under the shade of a spreading green tree with deep shades cooled by soft breezes, he would snooze. Then come evening, he would set out homewards, chat and exchange greetings with passing by acquaintances. Then he would reach the village square, where light and hard gossip, about the village, the other villages, even the countries would be in full discussion. He too would lend an extremely vociferous voice, and a definite piece of advice, an encouraging word or two. And some ways before sundown, his august presence at home would bring cheer and importance to the whole household. Dinner would be served to him. And then sundown, lamps lit- early to bed early to rise.....till the oft repeated pattern of life the next day!! till 100 years later.....
Early to bed
The saying “early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise.Well the rural folks of old were early to bed and early to rise, they did become healthy and wise;however becoming wealthy is the forte of urban folk, provided they follow the maxim. Now how about seeing if the rural pattern of timing of old, when applied to an urban working life will have any beneficial effects! Well we cannot certainly envision a boss arriving at his office hours before sunrise. Get down to work immediately. Plow, hoe, dig his files and paper. Go to peak working hours say, 10.30 in the day. Take a good break. Have large helpings organic, healthfood snacks, then resume and wind up work before noon. Then take the’ yoke’ off his men and machines; both of who work for him. He should tend to them, I mean their needs. See that they are rested comfy, in the shade, had no substandard food and drink to ingest. Machinic refreshments for the machines strictly, and check it out. Are the lights, fans, electricity all working. Are the chair backs comfy, anything required? Send for immediately. It is understood that he has taken hard work from them from sunrise to noon. now he should heed the surgeon General’ s warning and not have the quiet puff of smoke. But he can have informal meetings bordering on a litttle gossip, with his senior and junior colleagues/ workers and promote understanding and goodwill, which one is able to enjoy and relax. Then he should retire into the cool rooms of some indoor game, productive internet browsing to increase one’ s knowledge, or one may read a good book.Early evening and the boss heads home, may stop at his club, advance his intelligence as to what is happening in the city,in the country and the international news. He may have Oratorial discussions’’’’with other members. And after the satisfying exchange of learning some and informing some, he would go home, for an early dinner. Does not seem too bad a schedule, especially when one hopes to become more wealthy day by day, owing to it!!
