Hi fellas! I'm back after another little period of hibernation. Winter hasn't set off yet courtesy its unusuall dryness. The rains are somehow reluctant to accompany the departing month of December ignoring its past when they would mix gleefully with the chill of December causing the atmosphere to shiver albeit with a moisturized beauty.
These are strange times in the history of Pakistan if we look at it in a political context. The emergency has been lifted, the constitution restored (with amendments) and an interim government is in charge. The upcoming elections, which are contentious in so many ways are thought about with passion, awe, uncertainity and contempt by different sections of the Pakistani masses in accordance with their varied interests. There are people who've totally rejected it and there is no dearth of those who conceive it to be a ray of light on the gloomy horizon of Pakistan. As for I; to your disappointment I'm the one who represent the former coz I believe that without the restoration of the deposed judiciary one can't believe the upcoming elections to be free and fair given our puppet judiciary at the helm . I'm amazed at the ferver with which our state run TV is projecting the Chaudhries of Punjab. The governmental money is flowing to support its loyals and the bias is too obvious for one to gauge the motifs of Mr. Musharraf for the upcoming elections. Yet we've these dihard supporters of Molvis, BB's and Sharifs' who've clung to the threads of their respective hopes; the hopes of getting some booty if their leaders are truimphant. In a recent visit back home, I was sick of the staring eyes through the mushroomed billboards, of all those who are hopeful of grabbing a seat in either national or provincial assemblies. Among them in my locality, I recognized one to be a second uncle, and the other smiling in a molvi attire, one of the naughtiest of my school fellows.
And yes, a word for the members of our civil society, the lawyers, the students and of course our mediamen, who've sacrificed a lot in their struggle for the restoration of the rule of law. How could I forget them? they are the ones who've inserted a new hope in our ailing national polity. Still they are continuing their efforts for all that are just and purely constitutional. We are far away to be counted among those who've pure democracies yet we are moving in the right direction courtesy our rising civil soceity, our emerging media and our viberant youth.
