Being a left hander....

Posted: Feb 9, 2008 Sat 02:53 pm     Views: 196    Interacts: 2

The problems that I faced being a left hander are numerous and in the same time, quite amusing and irritating.

It irritates me a lot when in a gathering people stare at me all the time and ask stupid questions like that one "WHY you're a lefty" :D (silly question). By the way, its a thought provoking question, Why I am a lefty? Don't know exactly how to reply? I can't convince everyone so better to smile all the time.

Writing on the chairs with a writing board on right arm is a very pathetic thing to do and right arm chairs for rgiht hand fellows are everywhere in schools, colleges and even at universities. I have to adjust my position and turn my self to the right side so that I can write proper But by doing it my back and my left hand hurt like hell after writing on a paper but who cares? Also by doing it, teachers always doubt that I am cheating and its my way of cheating.(poor me)

But in some colleges and universities, there are also left arm chairs for left handers. Bless them.

And another problem that I faced was while using a scissors with my right hand. Its a terrible thing to do but with a regular use and trying to my best, at last I have mastered the art of using a scissors meant for righties.

Its happens all the time while sitting with a right hand fellow I have to be very careful because our elbows can clash with each other and can disturb our work all the same.

While working with a fork and knife is difficult thing to do with your right hand and i swear, i cut myself so many time!

Ok, these are some of the problems that I faced being a left hander but I am proud of being what I am.

Sorry, mania. In my comment I didn't acknowledge your own well-written and worthy article. It's certainly thought-provoking and the subject doesn't get anywhere near the amount of attention it deserves considering the number of people it affects. Thanks very much for raising it.

I recall when I was in primary school at the age of around 10 another boy in the class was told to go up and write something on the blackboard. No sooner had he started when the class mistress shouted "BOY! Are you left-handed?" There was hesitant and timid "Yes, Miss." Then we heard a sharp intake of breath from said lady followed by a loud "UGH!" of disapproval. So, in other words, we were being told that left-handedness was inferior and to be frowned upon, which at that age we took as gospel. That was decades ago (in England). I would like to think things have moved on substantially since then - but I am continually suprised and disappointed that such prejudice is still there. Makes me sometimes wish that I too was a left-hander or is that just being masochistic?
