The doormen at Hilton
As they hail their words
Courteously and yet present
In them,
This old human pain,
As they extend their hands
For tips,
As they greet
At odd hours
As days turn into nights
With words and their presence
To earn and to bring
Liquor, bread, and peace
We walk in we walk out
Forget they not our faces
But we do and their pain!
