not another saturday night

You took my breath away
knocked the wind out of me

i left the house as one person
came back as another

what was it? passion
the needing ...the wanting for whatever reason
baggage that we left behind
drove to where the air bumped off the waves
the music drowned the sounds of any fear, any sadness, anyone
just against the world we all were.

it seems that night we all had a life
a life we wanted to run away from
just for a while... just for a while

the nights blackness allowed us to blend
let us sink, stopped us from our thoughts
and let us express our desires

wishing the night stayed young forever
time passed into dawn
the horizon bringing the beauty to end
beauty of intoxication....

everything out in the open once again
feelings, thoughts, and baggage had to be picked up
so drove... drove back home
this was the end .. so we assumed

so i sat next to you for the last moments
until death was riding with us
a jolt, a taste of how life could end in a second
when we thought escaping life was so hard
but little did we know that death stared us in the face

thank fully letting us go,
with a few bruises and cuts
banged up bones and shaken souls
leaving us bewildered but safe.

Safe back home
where things where still the same
... but we weren't.. looking both ways
creations of our night haunted
more secrets... more lies
it hurts everywhere
but i stand up straight and keep my smile
so know one knows what i have been through

but you... you knocked the wind out of me
somehow... somewhere i found myself in the world
with feelings i never want to have again.
feelings that will crush me, hurt me
leave me and not love me.
how did i get here again.

but you ... you knocked the wind out of me
and that wind must never be felt again.
